Ticketing Firm Tao Piaopiao Dominates Chinese Film Distribution
Alibaba’s online ticketing service Taopiaopiao has distributed films with a total box office earning of 15.4 billion yuan ($2.4 billion) in 2017, having contributed to the distribution of 22 films. Taopiaopiao participated in the distribution of six out of the top ten domestic films as an issuer, and served as producer for a few other films. DMG To Create Global Original Superhero Series After Acquiring Valiant Entertainment
DMG Entertainment has announced plans to create original IPs based on Valiant’s characters. This will be the first time for China and the U.S. to jointly develop television projects. Compared to that of DC and Marvel, the Valiant superhero universe is much younger, and the stories are closer to home, which make them excellent material to be adapted into TV shows. “Secret Superstar” Tops China Box Office Three Days In A Row
Bollywood drama Secret Superstar outperformed American sci-fi action film Maze Runner: The Death Cure at China box office, taking first place for three consecutive days, and reaching a total of 458 million yuan ($72.4 million) in the 12 days it has been showing. Maze Runner has gained $25.53 million so far in China. Meanwhile, domestic film Forever Young earned 13.9 million yuan ($22.1 million), accumulating 633 million yuan ($100.6 million) after 17 days, and family drama Wonder grossed 129 million yuan ($18.2) million after 10 days.
