iQiyi Brings Three Films to Pingyao International Film Festival
At the ongoing Pingyao International Film Festival (PYIFF), Chinese online video giant iQiyi has a quite strong presence. Often described as China’s Netflix, iQiyi started producing original films in recent years. This year, the company brings to PYIFF three new films, including Baby staring Yang Mi, drama film My Town, and arthouse film The Pluto Moment, which had its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. While the three iQiyi films at the PYIFF are relatively indie and artsy, the company also has big plans to produce big-budget films for a mass audience. Back in May, iQiyi announced over 10 upcoming film projects and some of the projects would involve international movie stars, such as Jackie Chan and Vin Diesel, as well as Hollywood production companies, such as The H Collective. Documentary about Chinese Designer is New Zealand’s Oscar Entry
Yellow Is Forbidden, a 2018 documentary film directed by Pietra Brettkelly, has been selected as New Zealand’s submission to this year’s Oscar foreign-language film category. The documentary follows Chinese designer Guo Pei from her emergence on the international stage for Rihanna’s hand-embroidered canary yellow gown at the 2015 Met Gala through her 2017 show presented at La Conciergerie in Paris. ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’ Set for November 1 China Release
It’s announced today that American family fantasy film The House with a Clock in Its Walls has locked down a November 1 China release. The film is directed by Eli Roth and produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Starring Jack Black, Cate Blanchett and Owen Vaccaro, the film follows a young boy who is sent to live with his uncle in a creaky old house. The House with a Clock in Its Walls will be released in China in 2D, IMAX 2D, CGS 2D, 4DX and MX6D. Read more on Mtime
