Disney Gets Approval from China For Fox Deal

In today’s globalized world, a large-scale acquisition deal involving multinational companies is often required to seek approvals from multiple countries. The recent Disney-Fox deal is one of them. Feng Xiaogang’s New Film is About The Founding of the PRC

On Nov. 20, director Feng Xiaogang posted on Chinese social media Weibo, talking about the new film he is working on. Feng revealed that the new film is set in Chinese city Haikou and is about the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. While Feng has started preparing for his new film, his recently completed film Cell Phone 2 hasn’t scored a release date, likely due to the tax scandal of the film’s lead actress Fan Bingbing. Will This Film Become The Next ‘Dying To Survive’

Local film A Cool Fish has been drawing more and more attention since it opened in Chinese theaters five days ago. Currently, the film has totaled over 100 million yuan and is being played on over 20% of the movie screens in China. The film is considered impressive not only for its box office and screen share, but also for the positive reviews it has been receiving. On Chinese review site Doubou, the film currently holds a score of 8.4/10. Many start hoping that the film will recreate the box office success of Dying To Survive, as both films are dark comedies based on real-life stories. However, online ticketing platform Maoyan predicts that the film is unlikely to become as successful as Dying To Survive, as it is less critical, doesn’t have big stars, and has to compete with Hollywood heavyweights, such as Venom and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
