Dwayne Johnson’s 2018 Movies Have Grossed Over $293.6 M in China

American action film Skyscraper, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, continued to top the box office charts in China yesterday with 44.3 million yuan. Cumulatively, the film has made 536 million yuan in the middle kingdom, outperforming Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle, although still far behind Rampage. IMAX China Reports Profit Jump For First Half of 2018 

On July 26, IMAX China released the company’s semi-annual report for the first half of 2018. According to the report, total revenues came in at $51.48 million, down 0.2 percent compared to the same period last year. While the company’s total revenues slightly decreased, its net profits increased by 24% year-on-year to $20.47 million. The report also mentioned that 569 IMAX systems had been installed in Chinese movie theaters as of June 30, 2018. After last year’s profit decline, IMAX China adjusted its operational strategies in China by expanding in second and third tier cities and showing more local films, which helped the company increase its box office income. Bilibili Removed From App Stores for Inappropriate Content

Chinese video platform Bilibili has been removed from several Android app stores for inappropriate content. Recently, Bilibili was named and shamed by China’s state broadcaster CCTV for hosting vulgar content, including videos involving obscene language and affairs between siblings. Bibibili quickly reacted to the criticism by removing these videos and carrying out further scrutiny of its content.
