Audiences have been given three peeks at the Zhang Yimou film starring Matt Damon, including one nine-minute clip.
US audiences will have to wait until February 17, 2017 to see Matt Damon’s turn in director Zhang Yimou’s The Great Wall, but Chinese audiences will get their first look next week.
The film officially premiered on Tuesday in Beijing and opens wide in China on Friday, December 16. While the brand power of Zhang and Damon, along with pure curiosity about this cinematic joint venture, should give it a strong first weekend, but how long this Wall lasts will depend on public reception and could have a knock-on effect with American audiences next year.
Two official trailers, plus a third, a nine-minute take that does not appear on Legendary Pictures’ official website for the film, have been released ahead of Friday’s opening. Check all of them out below, in the order they were made public.

One thing’s for sure: this ain’t gonna be Red Sorghum meets Good Will Hunting. Legendary is best known for battle epics like 300 and monster movies like Pacific Rim, and fans of those films should be seeing something like that.
