These Chinese TV Production Companies Make Waves in Third Quarter of 2017

As of October 31, all listed Chinese film and TV production companies have released their Q3 reports. Among all the TV production companies, Huace Media has been leading the competition over the past three quarters. A few hit web series produced by Huace boosted the company’s revenue growth. Talent Television and Film (唐德影视) sees the highest growth rate, a 57.61 percent profit jump compared to the same period last year. Overall, the Chinese TV market maintains relatively fast growth rate during the first three quarters of 2017, largely due to the increase in licensing fees. Read more on Ent Group.

PYIFF Announces Award Winners at “Pingyao Night”

“Pingyao Night,” an Award Ceremony of the inaugural Pingyao International Film Festival, took place on November 2. Rossellini Awards, which are co-presented by the festival and the family of Italian filmmaker Roberto Rossellini, are given to Russian director Elizaveta Stishova’s ‘Suleiman Mountain’ (Best Film) and Chinese American filmmaker Chole Zhao (Best Director) for her second feature film ‘The Rider.’ Fei Mu Awards, which are co-presented by the festival and the family of Chinese filmmaker Fei Mu, are given to Vivian Qu’s ‘Angels Wear White’ (Best Film) and Chinese filmmaker Liu Jian (Best Director) for his animation thriller ‘Have a Nice Day.’ After the ‘Pingyao Night,’ the festival will continue to present a series of premieres and screenings, including the Asian premiere of Japanese director Takeshi Kitano’s ‘Outrage Code,’ the closing film of this year’s Venice International Film Festival. Chinese Actor Duan Yihong Wins Best Actor Award at Tokyo International Film Festival
The Tokyo International Film Festival closed on November 3 in Japan’s capital. Chinese actor Duan Yihong won the Best Actor Award at the closing ceremony for his leading role in suspense thriller ‘The Looming Storm.’ Chinese actress Zhao Wei, a member of the festival’s main jury, presented the award to Duan. In addition to the Best Actor award, the film also hauled in an award for its artistic contribution. Chinese film ‘Old Beast,’ which is executive produced by renowned Chinese filmmaker Wang Xiaoshuai and directed by emerging filmmaker Zhou Ziyang, won Asian Future Special Mention at the festival.
