‘Roma’ Gets Theatrical Release in China

Following Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody, another Oscar-winning film is coming to China soon. Roma, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, has been confirmed to release in China through National Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas. The film won three awards for Best Director, Best Foreign Picture, and Best Cinematography at the 91st Academy Award. The release date is yet to be announced. Read more on Sina

So Long, My Son’ Set for March 22nd China Release

It was announced that Wang Xiaoshuai’s latest film So Long My Son will open in China’s theatre on March 22, 2019. On March 6, Chinese veteran director Wang Xiaoshuai attended the press conference for the film release along with Wang Jingchun and Yong Mei, who won the Silver Bear for best actor and actress respectively for their roles as husband and wife in the film at the Berlinale in the past February. The president of Bona Film Yu Dong said in the conference that Wang’s film has a potential to perform better than the box office hit A Cool Fish at the box office with at least 600 million yuan revenue. Alibaba Pictures Officially Becomes a Subsidiary of Alibaba Group

On March 5, Alibaba Pictures announced that Ali CV had completed the acquisition of 1 billion shares of Alibaba Pictures, which means that Alibaba Group’s stake in Alibaba Pictures has been increased from 49% to 50.92%. This also helps Alibaba Group gains actual control over Alibaba Pictures. The announcement also mentioned that Yu Yongfu and Zhang Wei step down as executive board members of Alibaba Pictures as of March 5.
