Oscar Best Foreign Language Film ‘Roma’ Scores May 10 China Release

Roma, winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, has been set for release in China on May 10. The film will be released in China through National Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas. Competing films released in theatres at the same time include Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, Indian thriller Mom, French comedy La ch’tite famille, and domestic arthouse film Girls Always Happy. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Roma is based on Cuarón’s childhood and follows the life of a live-in maid of a middle-class family. Read more on 1905.com

‘Moscow Film Festival’s Special Jury Award Went to A New Chinese Film

The 41st Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) announced the winners of its competition with 13 films from different countries. Chinese film In Search of Echo premiered at the festival and won the Special Jury Award. The film follows an actor Zhu Bai’an who hops on a ferry in search of his wife, on the island where they first met. South Korean director Kim Ki-duk served as the president of the jury for the festival this year, which ran from April 18 to 25. Read more on tsrus.cn

Beijing Enlight Media Saw Revenue Drop For The First Time in Five Years

On April 22, Beijing Enlight Media released its 2018 financial report. The report shows that the company’s revenues dropped by almost 20% during the reporting period. This is the first time the company saw a decrease in revenues year-over-year. Beijing Enlight Media is considered a major film studio in Chinese, especially a leading one in the animation sector. However, its revenues gained from animated films have also been dropping severely. Looking forward, although the company have several upcoming animated projects lined up, only one of them is able to hit the theater this year while the rest won’t be released until after this year.
