Only One Foreign Film Remains on China’s Box Office Top 10 List

As of October 23, two patriotic blockbusters, My People My Country and The Captain, have each exceeded RMB2.7 billion at the box office. Both films are now on the list of top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time in mainland China. Currently, My People My Country is ranked No. 9 with RMB2.769 billion, while The Captain gets the tenth spot with RMB2.713 billion. With the change in ranking, nine out of ten highest-grossing films in China are now domestic productions. Avengers: Endgame is the only foreign film that still remains in the charts. Among the 10 titles, five of them were released in 2019, including Ne Zha, The Wandering Earth, and the aforementioned three titles. The one that stays on the list the longest is The Mermaid, which was directed by Stephen Chow and released in 2016. Wu Jing’s 2017 movie Wolf Warrior 2 still remains at the top of the charts. Peter Chan ‘China Women’s Volleyball’ to Use High Frame Rate

On October 22, Huaxia Film confirmed renowned Hong Kong director Peter Chan will be using the company’s CINITY system to shot his upcoming film China Women’s Volleyball at high frame rate. Sources said that the team will shot most scenes of the film at 48 fps, along with selected scenes at 96fps. Starring Gong Li, China Women’s Volleyball has been scheduled to release on the 2020 Chinese New Year’s Day. Audiences will see the film in the format of high frame rate in nearly 100 CINITY theatres nationwide. The CINITY cinema system is currently used to play Ang Lee’s Gemini Man in 4K resolution, 3D, and 120 fps. Read more on Beijing News
