Cinémathèque Française to Host Largest Ever Jia Zhangke Retrospective
From November 28 to January 6, 2020, the Cinémathèque Française hosts a retrospective to pay tribute to acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke. Titled “La Galaxie Jia Zhangke,” it is the largest and most comprehensive retrospective of Jia’s works so far. The Cinémathèque Française showcases 12 features and all short films Jia directed, including his commercial works. The retrospective also includes ten films from Chinese young filmmakers that Jia Zhangke served as producer. Jia Zhangke and his wife, actress Zhao Tao, attended the opening ceremony in Paris on November 28. To pay tribute to Jia, the Cinémathèque also announced at the ceremony to set a special seat marked with a plaque engraved with the full name of the filmmaker. Read more on Mtime
Isabelle Huppert Chairs the Jury for Golden Coconut Awards at HIIFF
The 2nd edition of Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) is being held from December 1 to 8 in Sanya, Hainan. On November 28, the festival announced the international jury member for its competition section – Golden Coconut Awards. French actress Isabelle Huppert leads the jury. Other jury members include American filmmaker Abel Ferrara, Chinese actress/director Jiang Wenli, Macedonian director Milcho Manchevski, Chinese actor/director Chen Sicheng, Indian film critic Aruna Vasudev and French film critic/journalist Thomas Sotinel. French Animated Film ‘Dilili in Paris’ Scores China Release
Helmed by French director Michel Ocelot, the animated feature film Dilili in Paris has been scheduled to release in China on December 21. A series of film posters and a trailer of the film were also released. To promote the film, Michel Ocelot will come to China and attend the film screenings to share his filmmaking inspiration with the Chinese audience. Read more on Mtime
