Chinese Sports Film ‘Leap’ Selected to Compete in 2021 Oscar

On Thursday, China announced the selection of sports drama film “Leap” as its contender for the Academy Awards’ best international feature film competition in 2021. The biographical sports film, based on true stories of China women’s national volleyball team, has already snatched up three trophies and became the biggest winner at China’s top film award Golden Rooster Awards this year. Why Asia Is The Key To Netflix’s Expansion Plan?

After entering the streaming business more than a decade ago, Netflix’s growth in the US market is stalling. Now, the company is looking to expand beyond its home turf by unveiling plans to double spending on original content in Asia starting in 2021, Bloomberg reported on December 2. Although Netflix has not disclosed its exact budget, the research firm Media Partners Asia estimates that it will come to a minimum of $1 billion.
