Chinese Cinemas Are Selling Snacks Online to Make Up for Box Office Loss

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Chinese movie theaters have been shut down for a mouth now, and the re-opening date is still pending. Since February 10, some film exhibitors – including Chinese cinema chain giant Wanda – have been selling discounted snacks and souvenirs online in order to clear out their inventories as well as to make up for box office loss. To facilitate sales, Beijing Wanda is also testing the bundling of snacks with ticket vouchers for future use. China Release of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Postponed

According to a statement from Paramount, the previously announced theatrical release of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ has been postponed in mainland China because of the coronavirus epidemic, although the new opening date is yet to be determined. The film was previously scheduled to open on February 28. In the statement, Paramount also saluted to all medical and service staff who are fighting against the epidemic on the frontline.
