China’s Box Office Hits 5 Billion Yuan Since Movie Theaters Reopening in July

China’s total box office revenue has hit 5 million yuan (about 733 million US dollars) benchmark by Monday since theaters reopened on July 20 after months of closure. Epic war drama “The Eight Hundred,” formally released on Aug. 21, contributed more than half of the total, grossing over 2.6 billion yuan as of Monday, data compiled by Maoyan, a movie-ticketing and film data platform, showed. The second biggest contributor was heart-warming Chinese romance film “Love You Forever,” which generated 494 million yuan at the box office. iQIYI’s Orignal Interactive VR Film ‘Killing a Superstar’ Takes Home the Best VR Story Award at Venice Film Festival

The original interactive VR film “Killing a Superstar”, created by Chinese streaming giant iQiyi, has received the Best VR Story Award of the Venice VR Expanded category at the 77th Venice Film Festival, making the film China’s first VR production to win such award at the prestigious film festival. A total of 31 VR productions were shortlisted in the Venice VR Expanded category, including works of top directors of films such as “The Lion King”, “Iron Man” and “Madagascar”.
