Beijing Film Festival, Chinese Blockbuster ‘Battle at Lake Changjin’ Postponed Due to COVID Resurgence

Highly-anticipated mainland Chinese film “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” which was due to have been released later this month has been postponed to an unspecified date. The move, announced late on Thursday, was caused by a recent resurgence in COVID-19 cases in China. The film is a Korean War epic that is co-directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui and Dante Lam and should have released on Aug. 12. The new virus wave is also hitting China’s film festivals. On Thursday it was announced that the eleventh edition of the Beijing International Film Festival, and the sixth edition of the Jackie Chan International Action Film Week have also been postponed. China Caps Cinema Attendance at 75% of Capacity in Low-Risk Areas

China Film Administration said on Thursday that cinemas across the country should cap their attendance at 75% of capacity in low-risk areas, and suspend their operations in medium and high-risk areas. The film industry regulator said virus control measures must be implemented carefully amid recent coronavirus outbreaks in several regions. Read more Reuters
