Beijing Film Bureau To Offer Another 20 Million Yuan Subsidies to Theaters In Need

Beijing will offer a total of 20 million yuan ($2.9 million) in subsidies to 232 movie theaters hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, authorities said on Wednesday. The subsidies will favor small to mid-sized businesses with each cinema eligible for up to 500 thousand yuan, depending on their relative box office earnings in 2019. According to the statement, this initiative is aimed at boosting the confidence of the industry and helping the box office performance bounce back to the normal level as soon as possible. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ Secures a September Release in China

Chinese moviegoers are hyped as Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated sci-fi epic “Tenet” just secured a September 4 release, one month after the re-run of the director’s 2010 film “Interstellar” and one week after an August 28 re-release of his 2010 film “Inception”. Warner Brothers has opted to begin rolling out the film in international markets (over 70 countries) beginning on August 26, with limited opening in selected U.S. cities over Labor Day weekend on September 3.
