All Valentine’s Day Releases May Get Cancelled

Sources from the Chinese film industry said that 15 films will cancel their theatrical openings scheduled on February 14, although there is no official announcement yet. As the coronavirus outbreak might not be under full control before Valentine’s Day, it is hard to see a positive result for the box office in February. The 15 Valentine’s Day films include twelve domestic productions, two foreign titles – Little Women and Five Feet Apart, and Japanese animated feature Children of the Sea. Another Movie Moves Premiere from Theater to Online Streaming 

A week ago, in response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the Chinese New Year film Lost in Russia cancelled its theatrical release and switched to an unprecedented online release. On January 30, the official Weibo account of the action comedy Enter the Fat Dragon also announced to cancel its mainland China theatrical opening on February 14. Instead, the film will move its premiere to two online streaming platforms, Tencent Video and iQiyi, but will be only available to paid members. The film is directed by Kenji Tanigaki and stars Donnie Yan, Teresa Mo, Niki Chow, and Jing Wong. Donnie Yan and Jing Wong are also executive producers of the film, along with Connie Wong.
