Alibaba’s Streaming Platform Youku to Further Invest in Internet Movies
After several years of rapid growth, web movies are seeing a new turning point in 2019. On June 12, Shanghai International Film Festival Internet Summit officially hosted a forum on the new content strategies, models and marketing of web movies. This is the first time an official SIFF program recognizes internet movies. In the past, the summit mainly focused on film, TV drama series and variety shows. At the summit, Alibaba’s streaming arm Youku announced a new plan to partner with six top production companies of internet movies to finance, produce and promote internet movies. Animated Film Based on Hit Japanese IP ‘No Game No Life’ to Release in China
It has been confirmed that No Game, No Life: Zero, a Japanese animated film based on the novel series No Game No Life by Yuu Kamiya, will be brought to China for a theatrical release. The novel series was released between 2012 and 2016 and gained huge popularity in Japan and beyond, which led to several adaptations including the animated version No Game, No Life: Zero. The film was released in Japan in 2017 and has been screened in North America, Australia and New Zealand. Its upcoming China release is highly anticipated by Chinese fans. Read more on Mtime
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Premiers in Beijing
On June 11, a grand premiere event for the upcoming China release of Spider-Man: Far From Home took place in Beijing. The film’s director Jon Watts and lead actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland attended the event. Tom Holland sent best wishes to Chinese students who just finished the university entrance exam while Jake Gyllenhaal sang the birthday song to a fan.
