‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ Lands China Release

Directed by Marielle Heller, the 2019 American drama film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood has been granted a theatrical release in mainland China. A Chinese film poster was also unveiled today, although a release date is yet to be determined. The film developed the story based on the real friendship between the renowned American host Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. Tom Hanks, who plays Roger in the movie, just accepted the Cecil B. A Look at the Web Movie Sector in 2019

Recently, China’s leading video streaming platform iQiyi released the “2019 Industry Report on Web Movies” in collaboration with Yuhe Data. Here are three main findings from the report: first, the number of web movies released last year decreased from 1537 to 789 but their overall quality became better. Second, genres are increasingly diversified and stories reflecting real-world experiences did especially well. Last but not least, offline film exhibition market is increasingly saturated while audiences’ demands for online content and their willingness of paying to see quality content are growing.
