‘The Eight Hundred’ Cancels July 5 Release After Pulled from SIFF

Huayi Brothers’ war epic The Eight Hundred cancels its July 5 theatrical release and a new release date is yet to be decided, according to an official announcement posted on the film’s Weibo account. The news didn’t come as a surprise as the film was recently pulled from the Shanghai International Film Festival lineup as the opening film. It did cause mild chaos on the exhibition side as some movie theaters had started ticket pre-sale for the film. Because of the cancellation of The Eight Hundred, the opening date of mainland-Hong Kong co-production The White Storm 2: Drug Lords has been rescheduled from July 19 to July 5. Read more on Mtime

‘Minuscule – Mandibles from Far Away’ Secures Theatrical Release in China

After a China premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival’s animation section, 2018 French animated film Minuscule – Mandibles from Far Away also scored a theatrical release in China this summer, according to sources familiar with the matter.
