Nominees of Golden Horse Awards Unveiled

The 56th Golden Horse Awards announced the list of nominees in the afternoon of October 1. Taiwanese title Detention led other films with 12 nominations, including Best Narrative Feature and Best Leading Actress. A Sun, another Taiwanese film directed by Chung Mong-hong, is close behind with 11 nominations. Two actors of the film, Wu Chien-Ho and Chen Yi-Wen, were both nominated for Best Leading Actor. No films from mainland China received nominations due to Beijing’s ban on Chinese films and filmmakers participating in the Awards. Nominated Hong Kong indie titles included narrative features Suk Suk and My Prince Edward, and short films Old Man and A Dog etc. The awarding ceremony of Golden Horse Awards will be held in Taipei’s National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall on November 23, the same day as Golden Rooster Awards’ ceremony in mainland China. Makoto Shinkai’s ‘Weathering With You’ Scores China Release Date

Japanese animated film Weathering With You, directed by Makoto Shinkai, has been scheduled to release in China on November 1st. A film poster with its China’s release date has also been released. The film tells the story of two teenagers who fights for their survival in society during a period with constantly chaotic weather. Opened in Japan this Summer, Weathering With You has become the highest-grossing title of 2019 at the local box office. It has been selected as the Japanese submission for the Academy Awards 0f 2020.
