Hong Kong’s New Film Censorship May Force Hollywood “to Make Difficult Decisions”

On June 11, Hong Kong authorities announced that any movie deemed “a threat to national security” would henceforth be banned from distribution, which may exacerbate the shaky situation. The film censorship guidelines, which so far apply only to the theatrical space, were the latest step in the implementation of Hong Kong’s repressive new national security law, which Beijing imposed in 2020 to crush the pro-democracy movement that roiled the city throughout 2019. Cannes Un Certain Regard Film ‘Moneyboys’ Drops First Trailer

“Moneyboys,” the Chinese language first feature from up-and-coming helmer C.B. Yi, dropped its first trailer Wednesday. It will play at Cannes as an official selection in the Un Certain Regard section. The film is produced by Austria’s KGP Filmproduktion, France’s Zorba, Taiwan’s Flash Forward Entertainment, and Belgium’s Panache Productions, and co-produced by Arte France Cinema, the Taipei Film Commission, and La Cie Cinematographique.
