Hong Kong Film Studios Cancels Participation in Golden Horse Awards
After China’s film bureau bans mainland Chinese films and filmmakers from participating in this year’s Golden Horse Awards, several Hong Kong film studios also announced that they decided to cancel their participation in this year’s Golden Horse in Taiwan. The companies that supported mainland film bureau include Universe Entertainment Cultural Group, Mei Ah Entertainment Group and Filmko Film. Universe Entertainment Cultural Group invested in Andy Lau’s The White Storm 2-Drug Lords, which previously intended to compete for the Award. Hong Kong production No. 7 Cherry Lane and co-production Line Walker: The Prelude were also submitted to the Golden Horse Awards and then withdrew. Read more on Ent Group
2019 China Box Office Exceeds RMB 40 Billion
On August 9, the total box office revenues generated in mainland China this year crossed the RMB 40-billion mark. Last year, the 40-billion milestone was reached on August 5. Top ten films on this year’s box office charts are The Wandering Earth, Avengers: Endgame, Ne Zha, Crazy Aliens, Pegasus, Spider-man: Far From Home, The White Storms 2: Drug Lords, Bumblebee, Captain Marvel and More Than Blue.
