Cinemas to be Consolidated in Shanghai and Surrounding Regions 

State-owned Shanghai Film Co., Ltd. (SFC) released a statement on Mar. 8, saying that the company will invest 80 million yuan to jointly found a holding company with Shanghai Film Group and Shanghai Jingwen Investment Co., Ltd. The total registered capital of the new company is 200 million yuan. The new company aims at consolidating movie theaters in the Yangtze River Delta and surrounding areas through mergers, acquisitions and investments. According to SFC, the cooperation is to alleviate the operation pressure on movie theaters, which have been shut down for more than a month now due to the COVID-19 outbreak. SFC will also be able to increase the company’s market share in the film exhibition sector through this move. Read more on China Securities Journal

Liu Yifei Records Chinese Version of ‘Mulan’ Song

On March 8th, the International Women’s Day, Disney released a new Chinese version of Reflection, which is one of the best-known songs from Disney’s 1998 animated film Mulan sung by Chinese American singer Coco Lee. The newly released version is sung by Liu Yifei, who plays Mulan in the upcoming live action movie of the same name. Read more on Mtime
