China’s Golden Rooster Awards Reveals Nominees

The 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival and the 32nd Golden Rooster Awards today announced nominees for 19 categories. Two posters of the film festival were also unveiled. Dying to Survive, a 2018 box office hit, leads the competition with a total of 8 nominations in key categories like Best Narrative Feature, Best Directorial Debut Feature, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Behind Dying to Survive are So Long My Son, The Wandering Earth, Us and Them, and Legend of the Demon Cat. Each earned 5 nominations. Chinese film director Chen Kai-ge is the jury president this year. The festival will take place in Xiamen, Fujian Province from November 19 to 23. Read more on 1905.com

Previously Cancelled ‘Better Days’ Secures Release Date

Better Days, the latest film helmed by Derek Tsang Kwok-cheung, has secured a October 25 China release. This was announced by the film team on its official Weibo account on October 22, only three days ahead of the opening day. The breaking news draws a lot of attention to the coming-of-age film. As of 6 pm on October 22, only a few hours after announcing the new release date, the film’s pre-sale box office reached RMB 9.01 million, including RMB7.20 million for the opening day. Starring Zhou Dongyu and Jackson Yee, Better Days was originally set to open in theatres on June 27. But the cancellation of the theatrical release was then announced on June 24.
