China to Host The First Wim Wenders Retrospective

Co-presented by Gede College (China) German Cultural Center and China Film Archive, and supported by Wim Wenders Foundation, China’s first retrospective for Wim Wenders will take place in Beijing from May 17 to June 30. The retrospective features 21 films made throughout Wender’s career from 1967 to 2014. Wim Wenders will attend the opening screening with his best known work Paris, Texas. Other works in the lineup include Faraway, So Close!, Wings of Desire, Pina, and The Salt of the Earth, etc.  Read more on Mtime

China Securities Regulatory Commission Initiates Investigation on Leshi and Jia Yueting

On April 29, Leshi announced that the company and its largest shareholder Jia Yueting have received two notifications from China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) in April. According to the two notifications, CSRC has initiated investigations on Leshi and Jia Yueting because of suspected illegal disclosure of information. Since April 26, trading of Leshi stocks has been suspended. A securities analyst, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the probability of Leshi being delisted is very high. Read more on Yicai

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Breaks Single-day Box Office Record in China Thanks to High Price 

As of April 27, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame has grossed RMB2.013 Billion at China’s box office. The film grossed RMB 550 million on Saturday April 27, setting the new record in one-day sales for a single movie in China. However, it seems like the total number of viewers for Endgame appears to be shrunk. On April 27, Endgame was seen by about 10780K viewers and its average ticket price was RMB51. In comparison, with an average ticket price of RMB36, Avengers: Infinity War was seen by 12830K viewers on May 12, 2018, the highest-grossing day of the film with an RMB462 million box office sales.
