14th FIRST International Film Festival Announced Main Competition Nominations

On Monday, the much-anticipated 14th FIRST International Film Festival announced the list of nominations for its 2020 main competition. Since the submission portal opened last December, the festival has received a total of 895 applications, which was narrowed down to 643 valid applications after the pre-selection, including 100 feature films, 73 documentaries, and 470 short films. In the meantime, the organizing committee also announced the jury members, which includes Hong Kong director Peter Chan, independent film director Zhang Ming, and the beloved independent film actress Hao Lei. India Bans TikTok and Dozens of Other Chinese Apps After Border Clash

Citing national security concerns, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced on Monday that it will ban nearly 60 Chinese mobile apps including TikTok, WeChat, and Baidu Map, after a deadly border clash between India and China’s militaries two weeks ago. The decision to ban TikTok is likely to cause reverberations through India, where it has more than 200 million users and is the most downloaded app in the country. As of now, it is not certain regarding how the government will go about enforcing the ban.
