I Am Not Madame Bovary (我不是潘金莲) helmer Feng Xiaogang won Best Director for his latest film at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards in Taipei Saturday, on a night when smaller names from more artistic films took home most of the trophies.

Bovary also won the Audience Award, but the film’s star Fan Bingbing did not, with Ma Sichun and Zhou Dongyu sharing the Best Leading Actress honor, having both played the same character in the film Soul Mate (七月与安生). Best Leading Actor went to Fan Wei for his role in Mr. No Problem (不成问题的问题). The Summer is Gone (八月) by director Zhang Dalei surprised by winning the Best Feature Film award. Summer star Kong Weiyi, aged 10, won Best Newcomer.

Only one major award went to an entry from Hong Kong, with director Wong Chun winning Best New Director for Mad World (一念无明).
