Who Are China’s Top-Grossing Foreign Directors?

Michael Bay, whose latest Transformers: The Last Knight is getting set to smash imported film records when it invades screens next Friday, June 23, easily leads all foreign film directors in China thanks to his lucrative franchise.

The Last Knight‘s probable RMB 3 billion run will add to Bay’s directorial coffers and springboard him not only further ahead of second place F. Gary Gray — who gained his spot with just one film, this year’s Furious 8 — but also ahead of Stephen Chow (RMB 5.027 billion) and Tsui Hark (RMB 4.093) to become the highest-grossing film director in China, period.

James Cameron will likely jump in the rankings as well when his suite of highly-anticipated Avatar sequels finally start rolling out in 2020.
