‘Monkey King’s Daughter’ Novels to Get Film Treatment

A series of young adult novels based on the daughter of the Chinese legendary character the Monkey King will get a film treatment as a US-China co-production.

The story focuses on Meilin, a teenage girl growing up in California, who is unaware of that the Monkey King is her father. The film will focus on book one of the four book series, with Meilin’s mother kidnapped by dark forces, and Meilin’s attempt to rescue her.

Lv Jianmin (Blind Shaft, Pound of Flesh) will produce, along with executive producer and actor Aki Aleong. Guangzhou-based ACE Studios’ Henry Luk will handle overseas production.

Film has a stated budget of US$12-15 million, and will be shot on location in Canada, China, and the United States.
