Local Rom-Com ‘Love You Forever’ Nabs $38 Million on Opening Day

Chinese romantic comedy “Love You Forever”, opened on the day of this year’s Qixi Festival, racked up a stunning $38.3 million and broke the highest single day score record achieved by any film worldwide in 2020. The film recounts the story of a man who is able to go back in time to save the tragically-shortened life of his young lover. Coincided with Chinese Valentine’s Day, “Love You Forever” was watched by 7.46 million spectators on Tuesday. It played some 140,000 screening sessions and earned a per session average of $273–a remarkable performance by a small romantic comedy considering the fact that the dominant war-epic film “The Eight Hundred” is still controlling the most part of China’s daily box office at present.
