Jiang Zhangke’s Pingyao International Film Festival Unveiled Lineup

2020 Pingyao International Film Festival is set to take place soon from Oct 10-19 in the ancient city Pingyao, located in Northwest China. The young film festival, founded by Chinese auteur Jiang Zhangke and former Venice head Marco Muller, has come to its fourth edition this year. A dozen films will compete in the international “Crouching Tigers” section this year but only a few foreigners will be present due to the current travel restrictions. Last week, the organizing committee unveiled its lineup of 53 films, which includes 23 world premieres and 47 Asian premieres. Read more PYIFF

Jessica Chastain’s “The 355” and Fan Bingbing’s Return  

Universal Studios just dropped a first trailer for the Jessica Chastain-led spy movie “The 355”, which also starred the famous Chinese actress Fan Bingbing who is now barely seen in the public following her huge tax evasion scandal that broke out back in 2018. Although the trailer indicates that the film will be released next year, it is still not clear whether this star-starring action film will be granted a release in China given Fan’s ongoing pariah status. Considering the lack of new film supply caused by the pandemic disruption, some analysts believe that the film will get approval to move ahead to theaters eventually. Read more yiqipaidianying
