Chinese Actress Huang Lu Appears in Hulu Original ‘Little Fires Everywhere’

Chinese actress Huang Lu just made her first appearance in the trailer of the upcoming Hulu drama series, Little Fires Everywhere. Based on American writer Celeste Ng’s novel of the same name, the show tells the story between two families living in a town. Huang is known for her performance in arthouse films such as Blind Mountain (2007) and Blind Massage (2014). In Little Fires Everywhere, Huang plays a Chinese mother who wants to get her abandoned baby back from the foster home. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, and Lexi Underwood, Little Fires Everywhere will premiere on March 18. Read more on Mtime

Chinese Film ‘The Calming’ Enters Berlinale Forum

On January 20, the Berlin International Film Festival has revealed this year’s Forum lineup, which includes a total of 35 titles. Executive produced by Jia Zhangke and directed by female filmmaker SONG Fang, The Calming (Ping Jing, “平静”) is the only Chinese film selected into the section. As the second feature by Song, the film follows a female documentary filmmaker, after the end of her long-term relationship, traveling from place to place to seek a peaceful state in mind. The film stars QI Xi, who won the Golden Horse Awards for Best New Performer for her role in Lou Ye’s film Mystery (2012). Song’s debut feature Memories Look at Me, also released in 2012, was the winner of Opera Prima Leopard for Best First Feature at the 65th Festival del film Locarno. Read more on shcaoan.com

‘Bloodshot’ Lands China Release

Starring Vin Diesel, the 2020 American superhero film Bloodshot has landed a theatrical release in China, according to the Chinese film site Mtime, although a release date is yet to be determined. Based on the Valiant Comics character “Bloodshot,” the film tells the story of Ray Garrison, a former soldier who is reborn and becomes a superhuman after an assassination. The film is directed by avid S. F. Wilson, and written by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer (Arrival). Besides Vin Diesel, it also stars Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, and Guy Pearce.
