Chinese Filmmaker’s Animated Short Among This Year’s Oscar Nominees

Among the nominees of this year’s Academy Awards, there is one young Chinese female filmmaker, Siqi Song. Her film Sister was nominated for the best animated short film and will compete with the other four works. Sister follows a man who reminisces about his childhood memory of growing up with an annoying little sister in the 1990s in China, and wonders if his life would have been changed if things had gone differently. A graduate of California Institute of the Art, the China-born director’s works have been screened in many international film festivals including Sundance, Austin Film Festival, and Annecy International Animated Film Festival. ‘Dolittle’ Cleared for Release in China

Directed by Stephen Gaghan, the 2020 American fantasy adventure film Dolittle has been scheduled to release in China on February 21. The film is inspired by the novel named Voyages of Doctor Dolittle by English writer Hugh Lofting. Robert Downey Jr. stars in the film as the title character. Along with the actor famed for Iron Man, it also stars the voices of Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, and Marion Cotillard. Read more on Mtime
