China’s Movie Ticket Price Hikes Could Harm Exhibitors, Says Its Consumer Association
The high price of movie tickets was one of the top categories of consumer complaints over the country’s big Chinese New Year holiday, according to the China Consumers Association. Over the first five days of the holiday, the average movie ticket price in China was $7.60 (RMB49.1), an increase of 10% from the same period of 2019. Once the trust and understanding of consumers is lost, it will be the exhibitors’ long-term development that will suffer. The Sequal to Chinese blockbuster ‘Sheep Without a Shepherd’ Is Scheduled to Be Filmed in October
Sheep Without a Shepherd is a remake of the 2013 film directed by Jeethu Joseph, which also spawned an Indian Hindi-language remake of the same name from Nishikant Kamat in 2015. According to Chinese ticketing platform Maoyan, the film earned 1.33 billion yuan($206 million) in the Chinese mainland, making it the ninth highest-earning Chinese film in 2019. Sheep Without a Shepherd 2 is scheduled to be filmed in October and November overseas and will be released during summer 2022. Read more Global Times
