‘Leap’ Kicks Off China’s National Day Holiday With a $24.6 Million Weekend Debut

Although China’s National Day holiday will not begin until this Thursday (Oct 1), Chinese box office is already warmed up with the early release of the highly-anticipated sports drama film “Leap”. In just three days, the volleyball drama has raked in a $24.6 million weekend gross and on its way to kick off the busy National Day holiday. The crowded National Day week has three major films set to release at the same time, which are Stanley Tong’s “Vanguard” starring Jackie Chan premiering Sept. 30, Enlight Media’s animated “Jiang Ziya: Legend of Deification” and Beijing Culture’s patriotic “My People, My Homeland” set to hit on Oct 1. 35th Hundred Flowers Awards Announced Winners

Winners of the 35th Hundred Flowers Awards were announced in Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan Province on Saturday. Winners of nine awards for the best actor, actress, director and best picture, among others, were unveiled at the closing ceremony of the Hundred Flowers Film Festival 2020. The award for Best Picture went to “My People, My Country,” a major production celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Director of last year’s sci-fi box office sensation “The Wandering Earth” took home the Best Director. Huang Xiaoming and Zhou Dongyu received the best acting awards respectively. Read More Mtime
