Four Chinese-language Films Enter Tokyo Int’l Film Festival 2019

The 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival unveiled its lineup on September 26. Chinese-language film Chaogtu with Sarula entered into the Competition section. This is the fifth feature from filmmaker Wang Rui, who is also a professor at Beijing Film Academy. The film tells the story of a Mongolian couple who fall into a life malaise due to their different living pursuits. In addition, another three Chinese-language films were selected in the Asian Future section: I’m Livin’it, starring renowned Hong Kong movie stars Aaron Kwok and Miriam Yeung; The Secret Diary of A Mom to Be, helmed by Love in The Buff‘s writer Luk Yee-sum; and Summer Knight, a family story set in 1997 before the Hong Kong handover. The 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival runs from October 28 – November 5. Read more on Mtime

Chinese Film Previously Pulled from Cannes Lands Theatrical Release 

On September 26, Chinese film Summer of Changsha unveiled a film poster and a film trailer to announce that the film will be released in China on November 1. The directorial debut of Chinese actor Zu Feng was previously pulled from Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival due to “technical reasons.” Prior to its theatrical release in November, Summer of Changsha will be screened in China at the 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival. Summer of Changsha also marks the first partnership in film between Zu Feng and his wife, actress Liu Tianchi. The film tells the story of a policeman Bin, suffering from depression, who meets and gradually falls in love with the victim’s sister when investigating a mysterious murder case. Read more on Mtime
